Development of the corridor “North-South” in transit through the Russian Federation
In late autumn, a meeting was held in Baku dedicated to the formation of a common transport route between the four countries: Iran, Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan. The parties discussed a common transport policy, paid attention to the issue of the formation of competitive rates, so that the delivery of goods to Europe by wagon and container shipments had demand from the first day. Also, the potential of using the North-South corridor for railway trains, the possibility of introducing its fleets and the tariff rates for railroads not belonging to the Azerbaijan Railways was considered.
The purpose of forming a corridor is to unite the countries of South-East Asia with a part of Northern Europe into a unified transport network by combining railway tracks of all the participating countries. “North-South” will run through the territory of the Russian Federation, Iran, Azerbaijan and Belarus.
